Yes, I'm probably confusing the term plot with someone else. So much of what I've written post-Tolkien is thinking of the characters first, and then crafting things around them for them to do or happen to them, rather than having some particular event(s) and then placing the characters into the scenario.
My fingernails and self-esteem will probably both be shredded by the end, and I'll still be wishing I'd just bloody well written a new story with the public as the intended audience. Oh, wait. I have that on my plate, too. :headdesk:
