Title: The Gardener Fandom: HP (AU, obviously) Pairing: Remus/Neville W/C: 185
"I was never accused of having a green thumb," Remus admitted, kneeling in the dirt next to Neville.
"Well, at least you didn't explode cauldrons in school." Neville's smile was rueful, and Remus sensed the latent insecurities still buried deep in him, despite his successes in the world.
"Not for lack of trying."
Neville chuckled out loud at that, deftly using his trowel to create a home for the seedlings at his side. "Spending years with the twins around and what they got up to— and Merlin knows I didn't know about half of it — I'll admit that sometimes I find it hard to reconcile what you must have been like as a student to how you are now."
Remus' thoughts drifted, briefly, until like a shepherd with a wayward sheep, he nudged them back to the present. "We all change. I'm glad for that, otherwise I doubt you and I would be here, now."
After patting down the soil around the plant, Neville turned to him, leaning over to press a firm but chaste kiss on Remus' lips.

"But we are," he murmured.
