Galdra has a walk-on part in the first book of the second trilogy (Wraiths), but gets upgraded to Major Character status in books 2 and 3 (Shades and Ghosts). He's not a baddie, like Ponclast, he's just really... irritating. I'm sure you'll discover for yourself in due course just what makes him so annoying!
I do like a good dollop of angst myself - a story needs some sort of Issue to gnaw on to be successful, imo at least, but if I'm writing it myself I always go for a resolution of sorts. In a way, I quite like the fact that Ashmael and Vaysh don't get that sort of resolution in Storm's books - it leaves a lot more avenues open for consideration. Of course, tying up Ash & Vaysh's "loose ends" is quite a popular theme among Wraeththu fans, but I don't think I've ever read a story that actually expands on their relationship prior to the books, so yours will be quite a departure!
