Thanks! As admitted to redpiratemel, I watched the miniseries new Battlestar Galactica Thursday night, and that idea of being suddenly bumped from a low position to one of such high power came totally from that. I just incorporated it over into the fandom I know much better. ;)

And yes; I can't imagine them being in a drawn-out war and still wearing glasses; it would be suicide.
